A major head turner at this year’s CES was no doubt the Asus ZenFone 2 which is distinguished by the fact that it is the world’s first smartphone to come with 4GB worth of RAM onboard. With April 23 having been announced as the launch date of this handset in India, we have decided to take a deeper look at the kind of features it has on offer.

Firstly let us clear up the confusion that has been caused due to the various versions of the device that have been revealed so far. Firstly, there’s the Asus ZenFone 2 ZE551ML model which itself exists in two different variants, one with 2GB of RAM and an Intel Atom Z3560 CPU and the other with 4GB of RAM and an Intel Atom Z3580 CPU.

Both the models from the ZE551ML range kick in 5.5-inch 1080p full HD displays on them. The ZenFone 2 ZE550ML smartphone has been equipped by the Taiwanese company with 5.5-inch 720p HD display, apart from an Atom Z3560 processor and 2GB of RAM. Lastly, there’s the low-end ZE500CL model which will ship with a 5-inch 720p HD display, an Atom Z2560 CPU and 2GB of RAM.

We don’t know what has triggered Asus to craft so many models of the same phone and yet grant them such difficult names, but let us move forward and talk about the high-end Asus ZenFone 2 ZE551ML model with a 4GB RAM module. This phone, as we mentioned, features a 5.5-inch 1080p full HD monitor.

Taking the Quad HD leap is currently the in-thing among manufacturers from around the world, but Asus has preferred to keep things simple in the display department. Its large 5.5-inch panel is of the IPS type, and is covered by Gorilla Glass 3 for protection against the accidental drops and scratches.

This Asus device features a brushed-metal finish which gives it luxurious looks from the outside. There’s an arc on its rear side which makes it an incredibly comfortable gadget to hold. More importantly, the smartphone’s volume buttons have moved to the rear surface to emulate LG’s design strategy. The battery inside it is a 3000mAh unit which not only keeps it going for long hours of usage, but also grants it fast charging capabilities.

Coming to the internal hardware, this smartphone runs on a quad core Intel Atom Z3580 processor clocked at an impressive 2.3GHz. Combine this with 4GB of RAM and a PowerVR G6430 graphics unit and you should receive blazing fast performance in whatever task your device is handling. While storage options range from 16GB and 32GB to 64GB, there’s indeed a microSD card with support for an additional 64GB of space.

The Asus ZenFone 2 uses a 13MP camera for clicking pictures and capturing videos. This snapper which can be found on its rear surface is capable of 1080p full HD videos and is of course accompanied by a dual LED flash. For selfies and video calling, the handset depends on a 5MP snapper.

This phone features the Android 5.0 Lollipop OS, but as usual, the company’s very own ZenUI comes layered on top of it. Lots of cools enhancements and apps have been infused into this software package with an aim of making the experience of operating the device a pleasant one.

Here’s a neat look at the specs of the Asus ZenFone 2 ZE551ML:
